Ina M. Solomon began her career as a teacher in District 13, more than 25 years ago. She taught Kindergarten, 2nd, and 3rd grades. As a classroom teacher, Ms. Solomon deepened her commitment to issues of equity and access by developing and implementing student centered, culturally relevant curriculum.

After 14 years as a classroom teacher, new teacher mentor, and literacy coach, Ms. Solomon accepted a leadership role with the Division of Early Childhood Education (DECE) at the Central Office of the New York City Public Schools. As their Senior Instructional Specialist, she designed professional learning sessions for Pre-K teachers across the city, evaluated Early Childhood programs, and collaborated with the Office of Academic Quality to conduct School Quality Reviews. Ms. Solomon later transitioned to the Office of Leadership, and finally to the Division of Educator Development, where she supported school leaders in identifying and finding solutions to problems of practice. Through her time as a Central Administrator, Ms. Solomon worked alongside dozens of school leaders to improve teacher practice and student outcomes.

Principal Solomon believes wholeheartedly in the transformative power of education. When students are affirmed in their multiple identities, given opportunities to ask questions, and invited to explore concepts in a nurturing environment, they will connect with who they are and how they are meant to contribute to the world community.

In partnership with families, students, and colleagues, Principal Solomon leads through the PS 256 core values of collaboration, community, equity, and joy.
