Birthday Celebrations
All Birthday parties will take place in the lunchroom during your child’s designated lunch period. You must notify your child’s teacher in advance so that arrangements can be made for the celebration. Please be aware that some of our students have allergies and medical conditions that prevent them from eating certain foods. We do not want to risk triggering a medical issue for any child. Please check with your child’s teacher before purchasing food items for any celebration. We also want to limit the amount of sugar our students consume. Here are the acceptable food items for celebrations:
fruit
pizza
cake or cupcakes
donuts
ice cream
No sodas or candy will be distributed to students. Gift Bags can contain toys and school supplies only. Absolutely, no candy, cookies, chips or food should be included in the bags.
The Alternative “Birthday Treat”
Consider a truly “healthy” birthday alternative this year…
Have your child bring a favorite book to share with the class. A family might like to donate a book to the class or school library in honor of a child’s birthday.
Everyone can use a new pencil or eraser now and then. Giving every classmate an inexpensive school tool that reflects your child’s interest (dinosaurs, soccer, dance, etc.) is a welcome and useful way for your child to be recognized.
Glue Sticks, markers or colored pencils
Please know that whatever a family chooses to do (or not do), we will always help a child feel special on their birthday. When in doubt, ask the teacher. He or she will be happy to let you know what will be most appreciated by the class in the limited time available to celebrate birthdays.
